We have an exciting opportunity available for an Employment Counsellor (1 year contract with possible extension) in RiseUP, our new employment program for women with disabilities (self-disclosed) who live on Vancouver Island. This is a remote position, providing one-on-one services to program participants by phone, email and online video platforms. This is a remote position, based on Vancouver Island. This position will report to the Program Coordinator.
RiseUP is a cohort-based program that will be delivered in 18-week sessions. The first 6-weeks of the program will consist of online classroom sessions and webinars where participants will develop their employability skills and enhance their job search strategies. Over the following 12 weeks, the Employment Counsellor will work closely with Job Developers to guide program participants to achieve their employment or education goals by providing a range of resources and one-on-one support.
Through developing a professional relationship with the employer community and local service providers, the Employment Counsellor assists program participants in achieving their employment or educational goals.
- Assess participants for program suitability/eligibility
- In collaboration with participants, create realistic and achievable training plans to support them in moving to sustainable employment, further education or training that leads to sustainable employment
- Connect participants with information about education, training, community resources and careers
- Coach and mentor participants; provide follow-up supports, to ensure a successful transition to employment, self-employment, training or volunteer opportunities
- Make referrals to community agencies, as required
Post-Secondary education in Career Development, Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Counselling or a related field
Certified Career Development Professional (CCDP) designation preferred and/or training in Employment Counselling theories, processes and career assessment tools
2+ years’ experience working with Persons with Disabilities
Experience in counselling participants for career planning, vocational selection, job search, identifying and overcoming barriers to employment, and career management
Demonstrated knowledge of Job Search Strategies, current employment trends, labour market information and appropriate workplace behaviours
Able to work effectively and productively with diverse clientele
Familiar with local service organizations and education/training providers
Clear Criminal Record Check for vulnerable sectors required as a condition of employment
Access to reliable high-speed internet connection required
