  • Post-Secondary degree in a relevant field: human services or human resources management and business-related training, including dispute resolution 
  • Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) designation or Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counsellor (CCRC) designation or Masters in Counselling 
  • Career Practitioner training preferred 
  • Minimum industry-recognized certification appropriate to Specialized Assessment 
  • A belief that realistic and satisfactory employment opportunities exist and can be secure by the clients 


  • 3 years’ experience working with Persons with Disabilities in a vocational setting 
  • Assessing complex client needs in specialized areas, such as physical limitations, developmental disabilities, mobility skills, and cognitive, social and emotional barriers 
  • Conducting Disabilities-related needs assessments (DRENA) 
  • Interpreting specialized Assessments and clinical assessments 
  • Providing a Person with Disabilities with support to function productively in employment 
  • Delivering customized Employment job coaching and job development services 
  • Identifying Assistive Technology solutions for Persons with Disabilities 
  • Building partnerships with employers, community agencies and other stakeholders 
  • Working with clients to identify and overcome barriers to employment 
  • Assisting clients in developing and revising Action Plans 
  • Demonstrated experience in case and file management 
  • Thorough understanding of Case Management, Case managed services, Client needs assessmentJob Coaching, Customized Employment and Assistive Technology Services

Ability to:

  1. Assess clients for program/session suitability  
  2. Work under pressure, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines 
  3. Handle confidential information with discretion and adhere to professional guidelines (including those in the Canadian Standards and Guidelines for Career Practitioners) 
  4. Interactions with clients and assist individuals/groups towards self-understanding, self-development, work search strategies and career planning 
  5. Prepare and maintain detailed and confidential records 
  6. Assist clients in developing realistic career goals and action plans  
  7. Understand when and where to refer clients for further assistance to complete their Action Plans, or to alternative resources to deal with barriers 
  8. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Word, Excel, Access, Contact IV, Outlook and Internet applications  
  9. Utilize highly developed oral and written communication skills 
  10. Prepare and maintain detailed records with regard to confidentiality  
  11. Demonstrate proficiency with online skills and interaction with clients 
  12. Troubleshoot basic problems with PC’s, printers and photocopiers 
  13. Work independently and with others in a team environment 


Knowledge of:

  1. Adult learning principles and facilitation of interactive group workshops 
  2. Local federal and provincial employment programs in the Lower Mainland, as well as a thorough knowledge of local and community employment and education-related programs and services 
  3. The career development process, barriers to employment, career counselling techniques and the Job Loss Cycle 
  4. How local, regional, national and global labour markets function 
  5. How to acquire and utilize labour market information 
  6. Relevant income supports (e.g. Employment Insurance, Employment Assistance) 
  7. Canadian Standards and Guidelines for Career Practitioners 
  8. Employment labour standards and legislation  


Reports to:  Team Leader

The Job Coach works with Persons with Disabilities to assist them with finding and keeping employment often utilizing Customized Employment or job carving.  They perform detailed step-by-step task analyses of job functions to use as a teaching tool to promote learning and independent task performance using appropriate teaching methods, strategies, and aids to accommodate specific learning styles and identify/arrange job-site accommodations/adaptations to best support employment success. 



  • Develop respectful, collaborative relationships with clients and employers 
  • Explore client issues and initial self-assessment, surveys to gain an understanding of background, previous employment, barriers and goals 
  • Identify employment and career development direction and determine next steps 
  • Thorough understanding and ability to conduct Discovery with clients that guides job seekers through a process of finding out who they are, what they want to do and what they have to offer, as a first step in the Customized Employment process 
  • Provide support, information and creative solutions to employee and employer to ensure job retention and identify and engage natural supports (i.e. coworkers) in the work environment that promote the new employee’s full transition t independence on the job. 
  • When appropriate, engage with the individual’s support system (family, friends, colleagues, other support people/networks) in order to facilitate long-term job retention 
  • Conduct regular client follow-up; setting BF dates as required 


  • Maintain accurate and timely client records in the provincial governments’ ICM system 
  • Monitor and record client activity, according to fund contract requirements 
  • Maintain  
  • Update and maintain database of confidential client files; keep accurate records and statistical information 
  • Provide regular updates to Team Leader on work plans and activities 
  • Other duties as required 

Job Sustainment Services:

  • Have a strong working knowledge and in-depth understanding of employment services needed to support Clients along a successful path toward employment that is sustainable
