What is Island Ops?

Island Ops is a free program designed to help Persons with Disabilities gain sustainable employment. Funding may be available for skills training, wage subsidies, adaptive equipment, and self-employment training. Island Ops is available to eligible individuals throughout Vancouver Island, the Southern Gulf Islands and the Powell River area. Island Ops is an initiative of the Government of Canada’s Opportunities Fund and is delivered by ETHOS.

Here is what some Island Ops Participants have said about the program:

“I love my job as Bird Care Assistant & Interpreter at The Raptors because I am learning all the time and get to hang out with cool birds all day.”

Lindsay obtained her job at The Raptors through Island Ops’ Work Experience program.

“My Work Experience placement at NAC gave me a chance to try something different and an opportunity to put my office administration education to use. Before Island Ops, I couldn’t secure an administrative job as I didn’t have any experience. Now I have experience.”

Arlene F. Completed a 12-week Work Experience placement at Nanaimo Athletic Club and became employed by NAC.
