Experience Works
March 2011 marked the end of an era for Experience Works, the long-running program aimed at helping mature job-seekers explore the local labour market and employment options in Nanaimo. Delivered by ETHOS Career Management Group for more than a decade, Experience Works provided service and support to thousands of clients, and established meaningful connections with hundreds of employers and service providers over the years. Previously run under the banner Re-Employment 45, Experience Works is a success story worth celebrating.
The month-long program offered self-assessment tools, support in re-evaluating transferable skills, and practical guidance in developing effective resumés and interview skills. It succeeded in bringing together many people from diverse backgrounds and helped to break the isolation that comes with searching for a job.
"Mature workers face employment change for many reasons, and often the job search experience is new to them," says Theresa Mayoh, President, ETHOS Career Management Group and Director of Older Worker Programming. "We are proud of our role in assisting this seasoned and skilled group gain confidence, overcome feelings of frustration, and recognize the value of their contributions to the work force."
Gray Skills
Gray Skills integrated older workers into the labour force who had experience, skill diversity and a mature work ethic. Gray Skills connected suitable employers with mature workers (50+) who were unemployed and not receiving employment insurance (EI). The Gray Skills Pilot Project has now come to the end of its 18 month term.
The Gray Skills Pilot Project facilitated 99 participants to find work and provided 108 with access to training! It has been a pleasure to work with the Gray Skills clients and to see the amazing talent and skills in the Greater Victoria area. ETHOS would like to thank the Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development for funding the Gray Skills pilot project. ETHOS would like to thank VIEA for the opportunity to deliver this initiative. I would also like to acknowledge and thank the Gray Skills team for their dedication.
