ETHOS My Career Adventures
My Career Adventures is a fun interactive tool designed to help children, aged 10-12 years, understand how their personality can influence their career development. By using games, puzzles, and fun activities in our interactive work book, your child will quickly learn to recognise the jobs in which they can naturally succeed.
According to Richard Riley, US Secretary of Education, the top 10 jobs that will be in demand in 2010 didn’t exist in 2004; and we are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist using technologies that haven’t been invented. Understanding this, we need to give our children the tools to adjust to change.
Parents can help develop career awareness in concert with their child's school curriculum by;
- Recognizing the connections between interests, hobbies and career opportunities
- Expanding a child's single-minded career choice by exploring what makes it special
- Identifying careers that share similar, and opposite, characteristics
- Avoiding the masculine or feminine stereotyping of occupations by focusing on required skills
- Validating all career choices by discussing how each job is essential to the whole
- Encouraging children to take control of their learning at an early stage, illustrating how their choices impact their career options and how learning is a life-long process
The ultimate goal of a parent is to help children grow and create a satisfying life for themselves. For most of us, the careers we select and how well they suit us play a significant role in our lifestyle satisfaction levels as adults. Therefore, encouraging children in developing self-awareness and building career plans that reflect this awareness is just one more piece of the parenting puzzle.
